Flammulated Owl The Flammulated Owl is common, but very difficult to see. it is found in the higher canyons and in pine oak woodlands. Its low-pitched, single-noted hoot is difficult to localize, even after you finally hear one. Look for it spring and early summer.

Elf Owl The Elf Owl is found in desert scrub with saguaros, but also in riparian areas wooded canyons, where they might be found nesting in holes in sycamores. Some nights they cackle endlessly. Their wing beats are not silent. Look for it in spring and early summer.

The Spotted Owl is a permanent resident in steep, wooded canyons and mountain forests.

Burrowing Owl The Burrowing Owl is active in the daytime. It is found in grassland and desert scrub.
